Compression and expansion when installed into a bore
Any shaft movement in a bore induces friction wear of the shaft and/or the bore. To avoid this, it is essential to insert an intermediary part, made of more resistant material, between the two relatively moving parts. Tension bushings, easily inserted and withdrawn, are an economical solution to this problem.
These hollow cylinders have a full-length longitudinal slot, permitting compression and expansion when installed into a bore.
Vogelsang Tension Bushings are made of rolled, quenched and tempered high carbon steel, which has high elasticity, resilience, and wear characteristics. These material qualities are enhanced by thru-hardening in heat treatment. Designed to protect the bore hole or shaft, these bushings provide your customer with a superior product.
Installation is easy in both manufacturing environments and when performing replacements in the field with minimal tools. Chamfers help facilitate pressing these wear parts into a bore without causing damage to the surface of the bore or shaft to which they are fitted.
Our Tension Bushings are manufactured to a controlled, oversized diameter. The inherent elasticity of the material provides constant radial tension for tight fit, even if the bore hole becomes enlarged. These close tolerance and self-retaining parts are designed to replace solid steel (tubular) and case hardened parts, and have chamfered ends to facilitate insertion and removal.
They are ideal for high-load/low-speed operations in harsh, non-lubricated environments. Outside diameters range from 3/4″ to 3-1/2″, with three wall thicknesses available: 1/8”, 3/16″ and 1/4″. Lengths range from 1/2″ to 3″. Metric sizes are also available.
Did you know that Tension Bushings are also known as Spring Bushings, and Split Steel Bushings? No matter what you call them, VFS Tension Bushings are an excellent cost-saving alternative to solid bushings and can increase the amount of “wear time” between changing existing bushings.
